NoveList's Sign in to My NoveList option provides you with several ways to save both you and your readers time and move your service to a new level. Here are a few examples of how these features (Saving Personal Lists, Saving Searches and/or Creating Alerts) can help you provide quality service to your fiction readers:

  • Several of your regular readers may enjoy reading mysteries and many of your women readers are particularly interested in mysteries with women detectives. Many of your readers come in hoping that you will have new authors and titles to suggest to them. With NoveList's save a list feature, you can keep an updated list of women detectives for your readers.
  • Because you are frequently asked about certain topics such as women detectives, the search you use to find women detectives in NoveList is an excellent search to save. As you save more searches, this part of NoveList can become your personal resource for "frequently asked questions." The next time a reader asks about women detectives, you will be able to go straight to this saved search without having to spend time remembering the search terms and how to construct the search.
  • You can also share your successful searches with other staff members so that they can add them to their saved search lists as well.
  • Many of your readers come into the library hoping that you have new authors and titles for them. NoveList's new alert feature allows you to keep up with new mystery stories that have women detectives. You can set up your saved search as an alert so that whenever new mystery stories with women detectives are added to the NoveList database (once a month), you are e-mailed a list of titles added to the database that fulfill the search requirements you set up, such as books that contain women detectives.
  • You also want to encourage your readers to be independent users of the library. You can use NoveList's Sign in to My NoveList feature to help your readers do all of the things that you do. You can help your readers set up their own personal logins. This allows each of your readers to keep a list of titles that they would like to read (or suggest to other readers). For those patrons who are comfortable with computers, you can show them how to save their favorite searches (books set in favorite vacation spots for example) and set up alerts so that they learn about new women detectives as soon as you do.
